Southern flare and flavors – I went to Tart last night for a friend's party and the food and atmosphere were both great. The menu has a Southern flare to it with its Fried Green Tomatoes, Sweet Potato Fries, Corn Bread Muffins, Crawfish Spring Rolls and of course, Southern Fried Chicken.
I personally tried the Fried Green Tomatoes, Fries with special dipping sauces, Upside Down Nachos and the Tart Chicken Sliders - voted best slider in LA by Channel 7 news - and you will know why once you try them as well. I will definitely come here again, especially since its located right across the street from the Grove and Farmer's Market - can walk right across.
The restaurant has what looks to be a small space for indoor seating, but we were outside on the patio, which had a ton of tables and chairs to choose from. Highly recommend this place for dinner and drinks, but also heard they have an amazing brunch menu as well that I must check out.
WHERE'D BRUNETTE HOSTESS GO?! – USED TO BE A GREAT PLACE TO EAT AND WATCH THE FRENCH HOSTESS WALKING AROUND GREETING AND SEATING PEOPLE. SHE MADE THE FOOD TASTE EVEN BETTER.
FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT – FOOD WAS VERY DELIGHTFUL EXCEPT FOR THE CHANGES IN PRICE.
it was cool – i just moved to los angeles in september, and i've seen Tart on The Hills, and have heard people talking about it, so I decided to give it a try for lunch with my boyfriend. The food was good. However, for the type of food they have (salads, sandwiches, etc.) its a tad bit overpriced. I expected much more since its apart of Farmer's Daughter, but its a cool place to go if you're in the area i guess. I could've easily went to get something to eat across at the Grove and been more satisfied.
cute little cafe to grab some great food with friends. They also have a great little outdoor patio for seating. The food and drinks are great!
Very trendy Great food . They have this Amazing hidden patio . You have to to try there chicken sliders and springrolls.. And finally a place that can make a real spicy Bloody mary . All around was a great experence.
Breakfast Good -- But took two hours! – Had a breakfast meeting there and although pleasant, took forever! There were four of us and our waitress couldn't be bothered nor apologetic for the poor service. Wouldn't meet there again. There are much better places for b'fast in LA
Tart- the taste in my mouth after my drink. – The drinks are overpriced and below average-- I'm not so picky about overpriced alcoholic drinks but their coffee was terrible. I think I could make myself a better cup with freeze dried coffee crystals.
I also ordered an appetizer of fries which had 3 different kinds (regular, sweet potato and purple) and came with ketchup, romalade sauce, and some sort of mayo/tartar sauce. The taste was average, and nothing really spectacular for $8.
I was generally appalled at the prices ($20 chicken wings?!) and lack of culinary excitement in the food that was brought out. The service was poor considering it was a Tuesday night and the had less than 4 tables occupied, 1 inside and 3 outside (only having 2 people or less seated). Granted there was only 1 server but I asked for sugar at least 2x and finally just went inside to get it myself.
Tart appeared as a hip trendy hangout from the outside when I passed it and love was definitely put into the ambiance and overall appearance of the place, but I was terribly disappointed at my experience. If you want to sit somewhere cool looking then I would recommend this place but if you actually want to eat something then go somewhere else. :|
Just average – I don't get why this place is getting so much love. Service was pleasant enough but the food that my group had on several occasions was only so-so. This place is attached to a glorified hipster motel (The Farmer's Daughter) and it defintely feels like they are taking advantage of the built in business. Average food with no real flare and pricey to boot. I don't see myself giving it another chance.
Delicious Flavorful Breakfast, Great Service, Cool A/C – We had a really great breakfast here the other day- I ordered the Daisy Special and my boyfriend got the Mexican Skillet Omelete. Both were cooked to perfection and very nicely seasoned. The biscuits are light and fluffy- similar to the one's we'd tasted at the Flying Biscuit in Atlanta. The Iced Coffee was a bit watered down, I wouldn't recommend it but other than that everything on the menu seemed good and the prices were very reasonable. Around $28 plus tip for two people.
Daisy Duke cute bartender who makes a mean mojito. (Best in LA!) Real food: satisfying, flavorful. Order the special! Friendly service. Welcoming atmosphere. Nice patio:great for parties. – Daisy Duke cute bartender makes a mean mojito. (Best in LA!) Real food (fried chicken, greens, banana cream pie) that is satisfying, flavorful with generous proportions. Home cooking with sass. Tip: Order the special! Friendly, attentive, very professional service from the bartender to the waiter. The well-mannered staff is cheerful and makes everyone feel genuinely welcome. Inviting patio: nice for parties. (It would be great to have some Brazilian music, or maybe Preservation Hall type jazz or Irish group on Friday night with space for dancing.) At Tart, you can talk with your date and actually hear what she is saying.
Pretty, Disappointing – Like a previous reviewer, I was surprised the place was mostly empty on a Friday night. There were only a few patrons and the staff seemed more interested in chatting with each other than serving us. We waited 15 minutes before they took our order, and then another 35 to get our meals, which were very simple entrees. We could have (and probably should have) made them in 5 minutes at home, and saved ourselves the $90. We had grilled salmon on a bed of raw spinach, and pan-fried chicken with grilled vegetables. Simple stuff, but completely botched at Tart. The chicken wasn't fully cooked. The vegetables were raw AND dry-- which suggests they'd been lying around in the fridge for a while. The wine was good but definitely poured short. During the time we'd waited, the kitchen could have easily saute'd the spinach, fully cooked the vegetables and chicken, and made it taste like something other than a thaw-out from CostCo. And we're not incredibly picky, either-- hey, we go to CostCo, right? But we're perfectly comfortable at A.O.C. and The Little Door. Sadly, while at Tart, we glanced wistfully across the street to Johnny Rocket's and realized we'd had better meals there. In spite of the lovely dining room-- Tart is well-designed and comfortable-- you have to look around and notice that Tart is, indeed, simply the restaurant tacked onto the Farmer's Daughter motel. Seriously. Never again.
Great Place – I really enjoyed my first experience at Tart last Saturday night. The food was absolutely amazing. From the BBQ chips to the California chicken sandwich, I was very impressed. The portion size was great, and I was able to get another side besides fries without any hassle. (corn was good too.) I did find it strange that it wasn't extremely crowded for a Saturday night, but I wasn't complaining. If I had to nitpick, the portion size of the calimari was a little light. Other than that, one of the best meals I've had out in awhile.
This ain't southern cookin' y'all – If you want good southern cuisine do not come to TART. My friends and I went there on a Saturday night and made reservations. When you show up and the restaurant is dead on a Saturday night in LA, that's not a good sign. We all opened up our menu's and were less than impressed. A bunch of mediocre salads and sandwiches, hardly any dinner options. I ordered two sides for dinner since nothing looked good to me. I got veggies and the "killer" mac n' cheese. Yes it's killer since it destroyed my taste buds. If you make Kraft macaroni and cheese and add some velveeta on it with a sprinkling of crackers that was basically it. Two friends got the burgers which they thought were all right and my boyfriend got the ravioli which was boring and flavorless. Their garnish was a bunch of cherry tomatoes...exciting. I am from NC and the best southern cooking I've found so far is at Zeke's BBQ, save your money for them instead, now they have the KILLER mac n' cheese!
I gave TART two stars because the service was good, but how awful would it be to have bad service when no one else is in the restaurant?
memories of my young days are back! – I am a traveller and an adventurer. till date ruby tuesday was the only place i enjoyed and now i have added one more place in my list, Tart which is located in Farmers daughters Motel. I enjoyed the place thorougly, being a new restaurant, i felt like i've been visiting this place forever. it reminds me of my old good days!
this place is holy good!!!!!!the bar is excellent.....and i enjoyed my American meal along with my drink.well i would tell you people out there, Check it out!!!!!!!!!!!
love Tart – As i live alone in this city, there is nothing i can enjoy after office hours. So reading keeps me busy. i was returning from Barnes and Noble book store and on my way the aroma caught me still. i parked my car and stepped straight in farmer Daughter motel. i was hooked to the aroma until i reached tart. a beautiful place and great food.
now i make it a point to visit this restaurant twice a week and to be honest i found friendly ppeople in their staff.
i am an ardent fan of the chef. you rock!
great burgers and excellent seating arrangement! – i was visiting my son who lives with my ex wife in this city. I was suppose to take him out for lunch.
I am new to the city hence used the city search site where people highly recommended a restaurant named TART. I took my son there for lunch and we had a great time. We were warmly welcomed, the ambiance was great, the desert plant in the planters was extremely artistic and the patio was such a tucked away place. i enjoyed the BBQ. platter with the view while my son enjoyed his mini burgers.
Tart rocks!!!!!!! the reviews helped me to select such a fine restaurant...2 thumbs up for this place!
looking for a home away from home – i was out with my boyfriend searching a good restuarant to have breakfast as we had planned to meet my parents for lunch. I missed the meals my mom prepared, the Breakfast, lunch dinner. we happen to notice Tart at farmers daughter motel.
When i entered the restuarant, the aroma took me back to my mom's kitchen. The typical wooden flooring, the patio and great seating arrangement , everything was up to the mark. I now won't miss my mom's kitchen i know.
thumbs up for this beautiful place. A must visit place.
A must go to if in L.A are – This play was a jaw dropper. The food , the style, the service, was all amazing. A must go to if in the l.a area. One of the things that stood out most to me was the style of this cute little resturaunt. American with a splash of style and the over all fell was just very relaxing. The variety of food , well the food in general was amazing. The service was top notch and when im in the L.A area in the near future you can expect me to visit there again.Highly reccomended.
great spot the food was awesome! – 3 of us skipped out of work at lunch for a bite yesterday at Tart and it was awesome. From the time we walked through the door till we left everything was right on target. The bartender was our waiter and he was kind and courteous at all times and did not rush us at all. Did I mention he makes a great mojito! 2 of us had the burger and fries and the 3rd with us had the grilled cheese. YUM! Everything tasted superb and the ambiance was just what we were looking for you could sit inside or on the patio. I would definitely recommend Tart for lunch any day over the other restaurants in the area. Keep it up!
NEVER EVER again... – 3 strikes & you're out. Will NEVER go to this place again. I have been turned away at this place, not once, not twice, but three times.
The first time I went was back in January of this year, for Sunday brunch, had a nice time, food was good, wasn't crowded, prices were reasonable. I though I'd found a new brunch spot. NOT!
Have attempted to go back to Tart three times since, & have been turned away EVERY time. The first time, they said there was a private party going on, the second time, they said it was closed (even though the front door was open, not locked, nothing), and the third time, yesterday, Sunday afternoon, 7/15/07, around 1, my friend & I were told by a blond guy server that they weren't "seating" anyone at this time, & then he kind of gestured to the place, like it was too crowded. Now, it was busy, but it wasn't packed & once again, the doors were open, I just don't understand how you can refuse someone service like that. You're across the street from the Grove on a Sunday afternoon, heck yeah, you're going to get some foot traffic...so I don't understand how it's possible that three times in a row I've gone there & been turned away on some bs. Maybe it's a case of incredibly bad timing plus coincidence, but I'll bet I'm not the only one this has happened to. This place needs to get their act together, big time. In any case, I'll never go back.
Great customer service, Best waitress in the city – I go to this restaurant at least 3 -4 times a month and it is due to the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. I enjoy eating dinner at a place that is comfortable, and where the service is friendly and warm. Laney is usually the person who waits on us...she is always friendly and makes us feel at home. The food is good, but it is not what keeps us coming back. Also, whoever said that the bartender is mean was definitely in line too long for the Price Is Right because she is super nice. She has never been rude to us. This is one of my favorite restaurants in all of Los Angeles.
Great food, great waitress, avoid the bar – My parents were visiting from Atlanta last week and i decided to take them to Tart. The atmosphere was so cute. The cabanas outside were so cozy (even though our heater didn't work). The portions were huge, and the food was delicious. The only downside was the bartender. My fiance thought it was hard to believe she works for tips. She had a snotty attitude and bad mouthed the management to us. It was very awkward. Luckily we were only at the bar for 1 drink. After my parents got there, we went to our table outside and the service was great. Our waitress made good suggestions and was very sweet. My mom had the pan roasted chicken. I didn't try it, but she loved it. I had a salmon salad...that was amazing. I suggest ordering a side of Mac n Cheese for the table. They bring out the cutest little cornbread appetizer too. Bottom line: Great food, great waitress, just don't hang at the bar while you're waiting for your party to show up
i dunno what yall complainin about – i figure most people who have a decent experience just walk away full & happy. those who don't, go runnin to their computers to bch about it. so here's what happened (three of us, one came late)
plate of calamari: not bad, nothing special
two bottles of their $40 wine went away like no tomorrow
steak sandwich w shoestring fries--really good but i didn't finish it--was supposed to be med but came out rare i still ate it cuz i'm a pig
big ol chixen salad--looked like somethin from cheesecake factory or red robin. she didn't finish it
some pasta dish--she didn't finish; i didn't taste it.
was there bread? i don't remember. service weren't bad. you can go out to the patio & smoke if you like
we were the noisiest ones there go figger. other than us it was quiet
lots o reverb in that place. could've been romantic for the other folks i suppose. i hope we didnt wreck it for them. kinda like that cliffs edge place on sunset: you like the place, you feel good being there but when you think about each dish separately, no big deal & you feel just a little ripped off. this is a good place to chill & eat.
Best Food in Fairfax Village – This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants. I live right around the corner so me and my husband frequent this restaurant. They even make room for us to bring our infant in a stroller in. The "tinis" are amazing and the food is very comfortable. Indoor and outdoor seating. Super nice staff.
It's okay. – Decent menu, decent service, decent prices. The food is nothing spectacular - very much just okay. The menu choices are fine, but the quality of the food is just...well...I'll say it again - okay. Small portions, too. Oh well.
Disappointing – There is lots of potential for Tart to be a Happening Spot! It has such a cool facade, it intrigued me and my friends. My dinner experience was very disappointing. The menu items were not delivered as described. I ordered the shrimp and pasta dish with portabello mushrooms and asparagus with chopped tomatoes, but there weren't any portabello mushrooms or asparagus anywhere on the plate. My friend ordered hash browns and got home fries, do they know the difference? I would love to see this business do great, but this is an important part, deliver what you promise!
Nothing fabulous – Went on a Sunday for lunch and it was pretty empty. Their menu was pretty basic and I didn't see anything I haven't seen else where. Asked for their fried green tomatoes but for some reason they only made them for dinner. Decor was different than typical LA restaurants so that was a nice change.
Friendly service, good food, funky and fun atmosphere – Our group recently stayed at The Farmer's Daughter Hotel and were delighted by several things - the funky, fun nature of the rooms and the hotel grounds; the friendliness of the staff; the good food and service at the hotel restaurant Tart. We asked for same-day seating for 20 people and the smiling staff said "no problem." Then we did the same the following weekend, again with no problem getting the last-minute reservation, and again with the same friendly service. Our group enjoyed prompt, attentive service and a delightful variety in the menu. Great dish: Spinach ravioli.
If you haven't been lately, you haven't been. The Tart has (finally) shaped up!!! – I visited TART a few times when it was still very new, and each experience was drastically different than the last - different menu, different staff, but I think they've finally sorted out the identity crisis. The past three times I've been with my co-workers we've been helped by the same very sweet waitress (ask for Laney), and -gasp- the menu has had the same offereings!!! It seems that TART has adopted a shape up or ship out attitude and finally tightened the reins on the kitchen. Our food came out in a timely manner, was presented beautifully, and tasted great! The prices have been toned down, and they offer beautiful martinis made with fresh fruit. They bring out complimentary cornbread in adorable cast iron pans, but we still get the Upside-Down Nachos to start every time. The Angel Hair with Ahi is to die for, and my friend loves the ribs. Trust me. It's taken some time, but I think TART has proven to be well worth the wait!!
quaint and comfortable – my friend and i came out for the dinner here the other night. The waiters were very attentive and cooperative. I had the chicken and my friend had the steak. He ordered medium rare but he felt it was more well done, but he enjoyed it. All in all a good experience
A perfect place to have a meeting – The tables were comfortable and they had a full bar. The waiters and waitresses were very receptive and attentive. The service was good, the food was really good. I had a fun time and would definitely eat there again. They served very fresh salads before the meal and I liked that. The menu was put together for us and all food was complimentary so I cannot comment on the pricing. My salmon was very good, cooked to perfection. They served cookies and coffee for dessert. Portions were good and the food was not buried in too much spice or sauce.
Horrible Horrible Horrible – So the office decided to take lunch together on Friday like always. We stopped into Tart one day and thought it might be a nice place, so we went. BIG MISTAKE!!!!! The food was so so but WAY OVER PRICED!!! The service was HORRIBLE!!! Not only did we wait 20 mins for our order to be taken, we waiting another 30 mins for our food to be served and then ANOTHER 30 mins to get our check and ANOTHER 20 Mins for her to run our credit cards. When we finally got our check the water she so gladly brought out ended up being $8 per bottle!!!! She did not inform of us this at all...and we got 6 bottles. This place is aweful...I do not recommend it at all. It will be closed soon.
change the name from tart to sloppy – I went to tart last night for dinner. The presentation of the food is so sloppy and not to the level.the waitresses at tart must have worked at denny's for that bad attitude.I think with that attitude tart will be gone like a wind soon. The food is mediocre and the prices are way out of line.I had the cowboy steak and charging $45 for a steak with no sides is a big rip off.I would never go back to sloppy tart again.
denny's is better than tart – i went to tart with some friends recently.after being seated we waited for fifteen minutes to be acknowledged that we were there.finally they took our drinks order which took another seven to ten minutes to arrive.at this speed denny's is better than them and can bring the food faster to your table .I dont mind spending money on quality of food and service but on bad service and mediocre food it is not acceptable to me.We had the worst service, food in our lives and plan never to go back here.denny's is faster than tart by far and the food might not be gourmet but comes fast as well.
The Price IS right! – I recently went to a taping of the Price is Right. I have been a huge fan since my mom used to watch it when I was young. So we stopped in and ate at Tart while we were in the area. I am so glad we did. The food was outstanding. It is such a nice atmosphere and a friendly place to eat. It made the whole experience even better!
Cool Place – I just had a great experience at Tart that I just wanted to share. I took my girlfriend and her mom for breakfast. First thing is that it is valet parking. But at only 5 bucks it is worth avoiding the hassle of finding a spot on Fairfax. We walked in through the hotel lobby and through big sliding doors into the courtyard area where there is seating. A hostess greeted us and directed us to a table. The menu has a great selection and we all were happy with our choices. The waiter was very accomodating and kept checking with us throughout our meal. We had a great time and spent less than $30 for all three of us.
AMAZING!!!!!!! – My boyfriend and I made reservations for Tart as a last resort and it ended up being the best dinner we've had in ages! We enjoyed the warm atmosphere, the excellent service, and were blown alway by the food.
B E A U T I FUL! – Fresh new MID-WESTERN in Los Angeles! This food was amazing, dining room is beautiful , and the music was great, really authentic! Just delightful! I would definitely recommend one of the steaks, this place has the BEST meat! My beloved friend had a "cowboy steak" to die for... very tasteful ambience.
Best food ever!!! – Finally, a place in LA that is "among the very finest restaurants". The quality and consistency of what appeared on the plates was spectaculor. A restaurant that serves all 3 courses with so much more talent and creativity!
What a treat! – I went to Tart to meet a friend for lunch at his suggestion. I am so glad he chose this little gem. The food was really good. We had a great experience from the waitress to the cute layout. We sat outside in a cozy booth. Everyone was so friendly and the food was dynamite. I will definately be back.
Sweeet!!! A True Masterpiece! – The food on the plate was by far the most delicious food ever served in the history of LA. The quality of their produce is among disbelief...the finest grades and cuts of meat and the finest quality of fish...freshness an A++. The quality of this restaurant speaks for itself. It is a must to try everything, from the appetizers through desserts.
horrible service, horrible wine prices – I went to tart last week for dinner, because we read about it in a magazine. On arrival the waiter took fifteen minutes to get our wine order and by the way let me tell you that there wine prices are of the roof.Anyway so we waited for the food to arrive, which took another hour to get .And when the food arrived it was cold so we sent it back. The waiteress had a bad attitude towards us,she never came back to check on us.All together we spend $230 for a lousy meal, service and bad wine.I should have brought my own wine and would have a better experience there.I dont think tart will survive for longer with this attitude, service and those astrnomical prices for wine.
Seriously good! – Seriously good food... what a great place to pick up a healthy, hearty, delicious, and inexpensive meal. What a fantastic dinner for a family, friends or a date. Their open for breakfast, lunch and, my favorite, dinner. I really love this place. i drive several miles out of my way each week to eat there as much as i can. Try everything and anything... it's all so worthwhile! But be sure to try their cowboy steak too, the dish is amazing!
Truly Delightful! – Tart deserves a 20-point rating scale on a 1-10. They focus on the quality of the food AND service. Their décor is adorable, service is exceptional and the ambiance is great for any sophisticated occation. Love it!!!
HungryForMore – There were many wonderful things about TART considering we came in without a reservation on a Friday night. Not only did we get seated at a wonderful table on the patio, but we received excellent service. The vegetable tart was phenomenal, and will definitely bring me back for more. The manager and wait staff were friendly, helpful and full of personality. We'll be back for sure!!
WOW!!! – Great Restaurant, you should definately try the "cowboy steaks". Fun and exciting new place! Beautiful outside dinning.
i rather go to taco bell for dinner where the food is consistent – We went to tart few nights ago,and got seated in the patio.i ordered the chicken breast which was sort of salty and had no flavor.my date ordered the cowboy steak and let me tell you it was burnt and overcooked. The waiters took the steak back and came back with another burnt steak. At those prices they better get there head straight. After we left tart,we ended up at taco bell which was great and has never let us down.May be tart can send there cooks to taco bell for training for the food so they can learn more.
Daisy Duke meets Paris Hilton at this re-vamped iconic retro hotel in the Fairfax District. – In Short
A rustic-chic dining room, dominated by wood, country chairs and tables, sports a sleek mid-century design and mirrored martini bar. Sun streams in from the patio where hipsters lounge among inviting redwood cabanas, market umbrellas, potted citrus and cascading succulents that evoke a luxe Palm Springs ranch house. The menu offers a menu of classic American bistro food nuanced with Latin/Caribbean touches. Dishes include lobster mango seviche, inventive preparations for foie gras and blackened swordfish.
YUM!! – EXTREMELY friendly hostess and staff, great decor, and the food.... oh, the food! From the roasted squash soup all the way through to the last mouthfull of my steak sandwich, I couldn't believe how delicious it was! I hesitate to review TART only because it's already getting more business by the day and I don't want to have to wait for a table next time, but they really deserve all the praise they can get.
